You can help make a difference in someone's life!

Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley is looking for volunteers to help provide support to victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. CVC volunteers are able to contribute in ways that have a direct impact on the lives of victims and their families, and have the opportunity to meet and work with new people while gaining valuable experience.

Winter 2010 Training Program

Direct Service Volunteers:

Training ensures the best possible support to victims, family members and friends. CVC has a comprehensive 65- hour training course that is mandatory in order to provide any direct services to victims. After completing this state-approved training, you can participate in the following programs:

Crisis Intervention Counseling
  • Support victims on the 24-hour hotline
  • Accompany victims to hospital emergency rooms, police departments and to various court proceedings
Support Group Counseling
  • Co-facilitate various short-term support groups with a CVC counselor
Student Internship
  • Complete your undergraduate or graduate internship requirements in the rewarding field of victims' services
Community Volunteers:

A willingness to help is all that is required for many community activities. Some of the opportunities you can enjoy are:

Fund-raising/Special Events
  • Participate in a one day fund-raiser or join an on-going committee and assist in planning one of our annual fund-raisers. Click here for current special events.
Community Educator
  • Staff CVC informational displays at community-wide events and fairs
  • Provide Prevention and Education presentations in classrooms and to various community groups. CVC staff will train you on the many different programs available to various age groups

2010 Training Program

The Winter 2010 training program is scheduled to run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-9:00 from February 2nd through March 2nd, 2010.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • child abuse
  • emotional aftermath of a crime
  • the criminal justice system
  • homicide
  • listening and counseling skills
Winter 2010 Training.

Volunteers will be needed to staff a 24-hour hotline and accompany victims to area hospitals, police departments or court proceedings. A PRE-TRAINING INTERVIEW IS MANDATORY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM.
